Tour of Britain Cycle Race

With just one week to go till the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men's cycle race returns to Warwickshire, here’s an update for you on what’s happening and how it might impact on your area. Please do share this information with your communities via newsletters or social media if you can.

On Friday 5 September, the world’ top cyclists will be whizzing through our county on stage four of the Tour. It kicks off in Atherstone at 10.30am and will finish at Burton Dassett Hills Country Park around 3pm. The riders will cover an impressive 116 miles in between, as they wind their way through each of Warwickshire’s district and boroughs.

To check if the race is coming through your town or parish, and to find out what time you can expect this to happen, please take a look at the route details and approximate timings.

As you might expect, an event of this size will inevitably bring some disruption. We are keeping this to a minimum wherever possible, but we have to make sure both cyclists and spectators are kept safe on the day. Therefore:

  • Fixed road closures will be in place in Atherstone at the  start and at Burton Dassett for the grand finale.
  • Rolling road closures of approx. 15 minutes will follow the riders along the rest of the route – so expect short delays if you’re     on the move.
  • There are also some limited parking restrictions in place. Details of these and the closures are available here.

Road closures will mean it won't be possible to drive to the finish, so anyone wanting to join us at Burton Dassett Hills will need to use our park and ride facility from the British Motor Museum. Parking is just £2 per car, but booking is essential.

And for those who prefer to watch from the sofa, the whole stage will be shown on ITV and broadcast around the world – a brilliant chance to showcase Warwickshire’s towns, villages and countryside to a global audience.

Finally, if there are any cycling enthusiasts in your community, there’s also a special pre-race event in Atherstone on the evening of Thursday 4 September, with commentator Ned Boulting sharing stories from the world of cycling. Tickets are £10 each (plus booking fee) but numbers are limited, so early booking is advised.
