Story of the Owls

In August 2026, a safety review of our trees within the village was undertaken. Unfortunately, whilst most trees only required minor maintenance, one of the Oak trees in the Recreation Ground was deemed unsafe, with a large split showing down the centre of the tree just below the main branch system. Upon taking advice as to whether we could save the tree, any potential courses of action were impracticable and could not have achieved a safe solution.

Not wanting to just have the tree felled, the Parish Council felt that something more substantial and lasting would be better and to leave a testament to what once was a truly mature and outstanding Oak tree. To this end, we decided to have the tree cut down to a level that would give us scope for some artistic creation in keeping with the surrounding area of Binley Woods.

After much deliberation and searching round for affordable solutions, the final proposal was put forward by Danny Carves from near Sutton Coldfield.

Ther pictures below reflect the story of the creation of the feature and is dedicated to the Community of Binley Woods.
